‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: J.K. Simmons, Kate McKinnon’s Super Bowl picks
Super Bowl weekend is just about upon us, and with the big game airing on NBC this year, we expect “Saturday Night Live” in particular to have just about as much fun talking about this as they possibly can. After all, why wouldn’t they? The big game is the biggest subject of conversation that there is out there for the time being.
In the promo below, we do find out what Kate McKinnon’s Super Bowl pick is during her conversation with J.K. Simmons … and let’s just say that it should surprise you. Basically, this promo is Kate’s victory lap, given the news coming out this week that she is going to be one of the leads in an upcoming “Ghostbusters” reboot being done by Paul Feig of “Bridemaids” fame.
The one thing that is very unusual about this particular promo is the lack of a D’Angelo appearance. Given that the guy hasn’t released an album in well over a decade, wouldn’t it benefit him to be in the promo? Maybe he wanted to and something just didn’t work out; admittedly, we’re not the sort of person who knows a whole lot about these promos behind the scenes.
As for Simmons as a host, we expect him to be very good. He’s the sort of actor who has done everything over the years, and he is making the most of his post-“Whiplash” tour.
All we know is that this is a great time to be an “SNL” fan. Simmons seems to be excited and ready to host, and we just heard yesterday that Eddie Murphy will return to the series for the first time in several decades for the 40th anniversary special.
