NBC’s ‘The Voice’ season 8 trailer: Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, more become warriors

The latest -With the Super Bowl coming up on Sunday, you had to imagine that NBC was going to gussy-up some of their shows with new promos, right? Well, they’ve certainly done this for the upcoming eighth season of “The Voice“!

When it comes to the video below released by NBC, there is no way of avoiding here that this clip is as camp as camp can be. It’s completely cheesy to watch Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, and Pharrell Williams battle it out in some sort of weird dystopia. Also, it feels like they’re over-hyping the potential winner of this show, given that Cassadee Pope is still the closest thing to a star that has been born from the show (and she is mostly just on the country charts these days).

Now that we have said this, we are pretty pleased to see Christina back in the equation again, mostly because she is clearly opinionated, she knows the show well, and we feel like she genuinely wants to beat all of the boys. Out of the female coaches who have been there over the years, she is our favorite when you combine entertainment and coaching ability.

At the end of the day, though, we do feel like this show really needs a major reinvention more than a coaching carousel. Our suggestion? It would begin first and foremost with giving us some sort of new song list, and then add to this with a change-up that either gets rid of the Battle Rounds, or alters them in a big way. Give us something that keeps the surprise factor there, rather than something boring and predictable. We like the Knockouts, and the live shows are typically strong depending on the talent.
