‘Doctor Who’ season 9: Peter Davidson reportedly believes Doctor should be played by man

Doctor Who -Over the course of the past year or two, there has been a large array of stories related to one specific subject: Could there ever be a title character on “Doctor Who” played by a woman? This is something that Peter Capaldi and others have expressed an interest in seeing at some point in the future, but it is definitely fair to say that this has not been a consensus among everyone.

As a matter of fact, one of the show’s former stars is allegedly against the idea of a female Doctor altogether. Speaking in a new interview with ABC Australia, Peter Davidson explained that his own personal belief is that due to his own experience watching the show, the idea of a man in the lead role is what he wants to continue seeing:

“I speak now as a fan who grew up watching it … I have trouble with the idea of a female Doctor, only because I reckon if you’re born on Gallifrey a man, you’re probably a male Time Lord … It seems to me if you reverse that, if you have an uncertain, fallible female Doctor with a really strong male companion, you’ve got more of a stereotype than anything else.”

This is obviously Davidson’s opinion, and one that he is certainly entitled to. As for our own, to us it really does not matter so much if the Doctor is played by a man or a woman. It just needs to be the right person. Our hope is always that the series takes its time in casting to ensure that they have the right person for the job. Never cast based on trying to fulfill a specific demographic.
