‘The Voice’ UK review: Esmee Denters, Liss Jones, and Daniel Duke shine

Voice -So far this season on “The Voice UK,” we have mostly been critical of the overall talent level on the show. There has without a doubt been a number of decent singers the past few weeks, but none that really blew us away. That changed courtesy of two vocalists in particular tonight.

Also in this episode, we learned that Tom Jones apparently runs a mafia in Wales, that Ricky Wilson will plead with anyone in order to join his team, and that will.i.am wants to market floaties that double as underwear. Good stuff.

Here are the artists who managed to get at least one chair to turn.

Stephanie Webber – It felt like will.i.am turned around before she finished even the first phrase! Just for that sort of commitment alone, we feel like she should’ve picked him. However, the thing here is that she’s from Wales, Tom Jones is from Wales, and he is basically the God of Wales at this point.

Joe Woolford – He was also from Wales! However, Joe strayed from the norm and went with Rita. We’re not sure we would’ve done that, mostly because Ricky Wilson gave him what may be the most heartfelt plea to join his team in the history of making.

Daniel Duke – Let’s not pretend that this is the first time someone has ever done a stripped-down “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).” Jay James did it on “The X Factor.” Still, this was our favorite performance of the entire season so far. Stunning. His brother James auditioned later, but did not get a turn. Daniel’s on Team Tom.

Liss Jones – One of the closest things that we’ve seen on this show to a real, genuine pop star. She’s got a great sense of style, and while there are still parts of her voice that need a little bit of work (it’s a little scratchy), this show needs some more talent like her. Rita got a real contender here.

Emmanuel Nwamadi – Killer voice. Super-moving, as well. It was different than almost any other one we’ve heard this season. To us, one of the biggest mysteries is just how only one person ended up turning for him in the end in Ricky Wilson.

Esmee Denters – You may already know Esmee, given that she previously opened for Justin Timberlake. We feel she’s got a chance to really go far this season. She has a following already as one of the early YouTube stars, and she has a great coach now in Will who she clearly wanted.
