‘The X Factor’ UK: Could host Dermot O’Leary really quit?

The latest news -If there is one part of “The X Factor” that is truly spectacular, it is Dermot O’Leary. He is one of the best hosts possible for the show, given that he handles live TV well, has good banter with the judges, and knows when to implement a little bit of humor. We’ve said it before, but it bears repeating that this is one of the hardest jobs out of any on TV. Any actor can have multiple takes, but a host has to be charismatic and almost perfect all of the time.

Now what we’ve said all of this, it is somewhat stunning to hear that Dermot is at least considering a future that does not involve the series. In a chat with the Radio Times, he outlines why there are some scenarios that could make him consider going in a different direction with his career:

“Of course I love doing it, and it’s a huge part of my life, but it’s eight years now. I haven’t made up my mind yet. If a new challenge came up that meant I couldn’t do both, then…”

We are not taking this at present to be any for-sure indicator that Dermot is out, and for many good reasons. For one, this sort of quote has been a negotiation tactic for others in the past, and it could be here. Also, this is just the sort of job that is hard to walk away from, given that it is one of the most-watched series in all of Britain. Also, it’s not like it takes place the entire year. You spend a few weeks in auditions and then a little more at Boot Camp and Judges’ Houses. During the live shows, you have rehearsals, but also a little bit of other time in there to squeeze in other things.
