‘The X Factor’ UK: Ben Haenow scores Christmas #1 over Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars
We still do not quite understand why scoring a Christmas #1 is necessary the big deal that it is in the United Kingdom, but just about everyone out there wants to reach this milestone.
There was a pretty intense race this time to the summit, but once again, “The X Factor” has come out on top. Ben Haenow officially earned the honor for his post-show single “Something I Need,” which narrowly beat out “Uptown Funk” from Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars. Ironically, “Uptown Funk” was aided in its rise by some performances from Fleur East on the reality show this season.
This is something that probably makes Simon Cowell smile wide, since it further proves that there is an active audience out there willing to buy Ben’s music, and that could help him in the recording / marketing process next year. He should have a debut out at around the time of the next season in the fall, though we hope that he takes his time to ensure that he has some of the right music at the ready.
Ultimately, it feels almost like the Christmas #1 is just something that Ben probably needs to enjoy right now, since he will probably not be able to sustain this position for a long time. This song was so heavily aided by both the reality show, and the fact that the proceeds here are going to charity. This is an added incentive for those out there to want to buy the song.
Ben is taking some time off for the holidays, but he will join most of the other contestants on “The X Factor” for its tour early next year.
