ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7: Boss hopes for answers with Stana Katic, Nathan Fillion’s contracts
There is a deeper mystery going on with “Castle” at the moment, and we are looking far beyond Rick’s disappearance or the return of 3KX. Instead, we are talking here primarily about the mystery revolving around whether or not Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion will ultimately return to this show for an eighth season, or decide that now is the time they want to go off and try other things.
Contract discussions have probably at least begun to a certain degree with the studio and the two actors, who need to be re-upped in order for the show to continue. Unfortunately, there’s no word on if or when that will happen. Speaking to TVLine, executive producer David Amann said that he unfortunately does not know much:
“It’s kind of not up to me or [series creator] Andrew [Marlowe] – it’s really between the studio and [the actors] … We don’t have any control over that process, but internally we hope this all gets resolved sooner rather than later, so we can move forward.”
If this were to be the final season, we feel like the producers would obviously want a little bit of notice, that way they can write together an ending that makes a little bit of sense and is not entirely rushed. The ratings are not stupendous, but are at the same time solid and better than what ABC gets at 10:00 p.m. Eastern most other days of the week, except for Thursdays.
Our feeling is that it is likely there will be at least one more season of the show, mostly because we feel like someone would have been told by now if either Fillion or Katic wanted to depart the show. We do feel like this show does have some sort of shelf life, though, and is not going to last forever (even if it would be fun). This is probably not going to be another “Law & Order: SVU” or “CSI.”
We’ll have more news on this as it arrives, but for now, we suggest just heading over here to see all of our other recent reports about “Castle.” Also, be sure to sign up right now if you want to grab some more TV scoop on all we cover courtesy of our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: ABC.)

It seems strange, that after six seasons, we are to believe Richard Castle’s character has suddenly changed. That the man with an unbelievable drive to solve mysteries, now has lost total interest in who abducted him for two months and why, REALLY!

That’s challenging the IQ of the fan base.

I’d love 1 more season after this one. Next season though, bring the
sexy that Stana has always talked about instead of the constant interruptions
while they’re attempting to get their 1 kiss weekly quota. They are supposed to
be newlyweds so have them act like it once in awhile. I’ve stated this before, but the
show Hill Street Blues had sexier scenes between 2 of its leads
& that was on approx 30 years ago!

Excuse me but it’s not up to me or the series creator but between the studio and the actors. I agree that at this point in time you could not do much other than coming up with a believable story line and presenting in a manner that it would be moving forward at a strong and steady pace. You blew your chance with 6X23 and the Castle disappearance. You mentioned some strong long lasting police dramas where they came to work, faced a difficult case, solved it and moved on with the assurance that next week they would do it again. A strong, steady, fan pleasing approach. Here the fans have been alienated by a series that has made forward progress by creeping and crawling towards some goal as yet to be defined.
