Ratings: ‘Hart of Dixie’ season 4 steady; ‘Jane the Virgin’ winter finale rises
Clearly, a Golden Globe nomination for Gina Rodriguez and “Jane the Virgin” means great things for the show as a whole.
Monday night, the show managed to rise in the first new episode since the Globe nominations were announced, and while a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic is not going to leave any jaws on the ground, it’s solid for a CW series these days that is not some existing property or a spin-off of something else. We were worried that it could drop, with some thinking that it was not on due to “The Originals” being off the air.
At this point, the only way we could envision the network canceling “Jane the Virgin” is if its numbers continually are in the 0.2-0.3 range. Remember that these are their first nominations ever from the Hollywood Foreign Press, and we imagine that they want to continue to have this extra attention thrown their way if at all possible. Think of this in a similar capacity to CBS and “The Good Wife,” a show that has drawn lower ratings than many other programs, but also continues to have critical acclaim.
With this in mind, things don’t look great for “Hart of Dixie” right now. While the 0.4 rating the show got for its season 4 premiere last night matches its season 3 premiere, The CW is in a different place now in terms of its ratings. With “Jane the Virgin” off the table seemingly, it could be between this show, “The 100,” and “Reign” as to what could stick around. Right now, we give the edge to “The 100,” and “Reign” may even have more of a chance since it is a CBS show and The CW likes to keep that studio happy. There are some other new series to watch out for this spring, but “Hart of Dixie” probably needs to either keep this number steady or raise it a tenth to have a shot at coming back.
