Barbara Walters names Amal Alamuddin Most Fascinating Person of 2014

It could happen -Well, isn’t this a little interesting? Barbara Walters and ABC aired their Most Fascinating People of 2014 special last night, and let’s just say that the results were a little interesting.

Specifically here, we are referring to Walters’ choice to name Amal Alamuddin to the top of the list. No doubt, she is fascinating as an extremely successful attorney, and someone who has contributed quite a bit to the world that no one knows about. However, and it is almost unfortunate to say, she would not be on this list if it were not for her marrying George Clooney.

It just seems like in the broad scope of the world, this show focusing so much on something associated so heavily with tabloid culture is an odd choice for this show, which tends to name people to the top who have a larger impact on the world in the past year. Alamuddin is one of those people who we could routinely see on the top ten on the list, and we would have no problem with her there at all.

Out of the people who were on Walters’ list this year, we feel like businessman Elon Musk or billionaire David Koch of the Koch brothers would have been a little more fascinating for the top spot, at least when you think about their impact. We’re not speaking in terms of whether or not we agree with any of their philosophies.

Some other members of the list this year included Taylor Swift, George R.R. Martin, Michael Strahan, and Oprah Winfrey. It is Walters’ list, so of course she has the right to name whoever she chooses.
