‘American Idol XIV’ spoilers: See Harry Connick Jr.’s ‘audition’ now

Next month, “American Idol XIV” arrives on the scene with what is going to be yet another season, which also means yet another campaign to convince people to watch.

In the old days, part of the show’s primary selling point in the early days were the joke auditions, and the colorful characters that Fox would basically choose to mock for a few minutes before moving on. They don’t do so many of these anymore, which means that they now have to find their fun somewhere else. In this case, that seems to be courtesy of the judges.

The video below basically showcases Harry Connick Jr. making his move to audition in front of Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban, and it certainly feels like his take on “Chandelier” is something that gets quite the reaction from Keith Urban. Specifically, he looks horrified by it.

Yet, Harry hits all of the notes! Let’s just say that there is a reason that he does not sing in this register very often.

Last year, Harry was one of the reasons that the show was so spectacular during the early going, since he was as a judge a guy who really knew his music, but also knew that this was an entertainment show first and foremost. Therefore, there has to be a whole lot of time that you use in order to emphasize being silly, and entertaining the public.

Now, we have to hope that there is a decent lineup of talent this coming season, as well. This was one of the biggest problems with the past season of the show.
