‘American Idol XIV’ video: More hype around auditions!

While you may be watching tonight’s new episode of “The Voice,” in the back of your mind, just remember that “American Idol” is also coming up.

At this point, we almost think that the shows are two different beasts talent-wise. “The Voice” typically features artists who have some experience, and often that includes either existing management or a record deal in the past. “American Idol” is more about the diamonds in the rough. That is why we feel like the NBC show has featured better artists as of late, since they have that sort of proven experience. “American Idol” has taken risks, and many of them have not panned out.

The only thing that we really want to see on this upcoming season above all else is talent, and bold talent. Not just kids who want to win a competition; instead, kids who want to be stars. There were some good artists last year, but maybe they were a also a few who were either too timid, or not fully ready to embrace the spotlight.

The one thing that we definitely feel for now is that this is the season of the show that really needs to accept that label as the show that finds “superstars.” The longer that they go without some sort of major discovery like this, the more that it is going to seem like they are still trying to live off of the legacy of Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, and Kelly Clarkson. Phillip Phillips was the last winner to have any real success, and that was almost three years ago.
