‘The Simpsons’ spoilers: See Christmas couch gag, complete with ‘obligatory ‘Frozen’ reference’

Sunday night, “The Simpsons” is going to be airing their latest Christmas episode, but you don’t have to wait that long to take a look at the week’s couch gag!

The one thing that we will always love about this show, even if some of the episodes are no longer any good, is the creativity and fun that goes into some of these. We laughed at least a few times at the imagination that went into this. Also, hats off to the animators for making fun of “Frozen,” and then making fun of the fact that they had to make fun of “Frozen” by calling it an “obligatory reference.” Isn’t Homer really built to be the perfect Olaf the Snowman?

More than anything else, we just hope that the episode comes close to matching the spirit of this, and gives us a few more reasons to laugh. We don’t expect a whole lot more from the show over the years.

One thing that has been pretty interesting to watch this year in the ratings, though, is the decline of “Family Guy.” While at one point it seemed to be the biggest success story of Fox’s Animation Domination, we’re starting to see the Springfield gang once again pull ahead. The implications here to us are pretty clear: This is a show that Fox does still need, and it will probably last for about as long as the makers of it want to keep making it. Having that huge syndication deal now over on FXX, coupled with the ability to watch the full catalog of episodes online, probably helps.
