‘American Idol XIV’ spoilers; Rumored in-house mentor (and Taylor Swift connection)
When we first heard the news that Randy Jackson was not going to be returning to “American Idol” for its fourteenth season, we wondered whether or not we were going to have anyone in the in-house mentor role at all. After all, there was not necessarily a reason to include anyone and save a little money.
However, we are hearing now that the show is going in a particular direction with this role: Getting back to getting a serious expert in the music industry on board. According to Us Weekly, Scott Borchetta of the Big Machine Label Group could be in charge of helping mentor the contestants this time, and really get the best out of them on a weekly basis.
Borchetta is credited by many as the man responsible for discovering Taylor Swift, and working with her in her early years especially on the road to her becoming a superstar. He’s also helped with the careers of Florida Georgia Line, the Band Perry, and many other country artists.
We don’t doubt that he has some serious credentials of being a great mentor, but what is his range of music outside of country? It is not necessarily like he has a blind spot by any means, but there a whole lot about this man that we do not quite know at the moment. It would be useful to find out a little more about him before he takes the position, or at least on the show itself.

Does he recognize that Taylor Swift cannot hold a tune? Can’t he hear that she is always singing with a backing track to make it appear that she has a voice? I don’t see Taylor’s stage antics as authentic. She needs to be so animated to cover for her lack of a voice. If this is what he will do for the contestants, I don’t think he will get very much out of them.
