‘Call the Midwife’ season 4 spoilers: First look at Vanessa Redgrave as Jennifer Worth

Redgrave -Going into the “Call the Midwife” Christmas Special and the subsequent fourth season, we had quite a few concerns on the subject of whether or not the story could work without Jennifer Worth as a part of the story. After all, she was the narrator of the story, but without Jessica Raine, you cannot really have her in Nonnatus House anymore.

Well, there is at least one way to work around this, and that is simple: Bringing in Vanessa Redgrave for a part! The photo above comes via Radio Times, and it is from Redgrave’s appearance in the upcoming Christmas Special of the series.

It is not entirely clear as to what role Redgrave is going to have in this big Christmas Special, but if we were to guess right now, we would say that seeing the older version of Jennifer is a way to try to bridge the gap, and have the series make sense. Maybe we’re going to see the older version of the character being told stories about after she left Nonnatus House, and this sets up the remainder of the series. Otherwise, you run the risk of wondering how the structure of the show makes sense if Jenny Lee is able to magically know events without her there.

After the Christmas Special, there is going to be even more good stuff for “Call the Midwife” coming up. New episodes of the show will air on BBC in January, or in March over on PBS in America.
