NBC’s ‘The Voice’: Anita Antoinette, Reagan James reflect on elimination

As of right now, this seventh season of “The Voice” is in a strange place. While we knew the men this year were pretty strong, we did not envision a situation where seven out of the top eight were guys. DaNica Shirey is the only woman left, and she has an enormous challenge ahead of her.

This week marked the elimination of two in Anita Antoinette and Reagan James who we felt were mostly just victims of the songs that they performed more so than their talent; unfortunately, someone does have to go every week, and there is seemingly a Twitter army behind Ryan Sill for being saved twice in two weeks.

If you look below right now, you can get some of the first reactions from the two eliminated artists, and of course, they are both still feeling very positive about their time on the competition (as they should be). Making it to the top ten of any season is an achievement, and there are so many different factors that go into voting. Sometimes, you really just need to impress the right person on Twitter, or perform at the right time during the show.

While it may be hard these days to go straight from being on a singing show to becoming a superstar after the fact, we are seeing more and more contestants still find a way at having a career in surprising ways. For example, Josh Kaufman is now a part of “Pippin” on Broadway, and Katie Stevens and Katharine McPhee are two former “American Idol” stars who worked hard and eventually landed acting gigs.

In the end, the best thing for a singing-show alum to do these days is work hard, and be open to all opportunities.
