‘CSI’ season 15: George Eads, last remaining original star, to leave

If “CSI” does move forward beyond its current 15th season, then it is going to do so without someone who has been a part of the show since the very beginning in George Eads.

As reported by TV Guide, Eads is going to depart the long-running crime procedural at the end of the spring. There was no reason given for his exit, but it is believed to be amicable and decided upon by both the actor and the show’s producers.

With this exit, this means that there is no longer an original series star still on the show. While you could argue against that by saying that Eric Szmanda is still around, he was technically recurring for the first two years. Eads was a regular from the very beginning onward, though there have been some times here and there where he has gone on hiatus.

Are we going to miss the character? Sure, but at the same time, it is possible that the show may go ahead and end this spring. The ratings are not great, and with this show so deep into its run at this point, it most-likely costs a pretty penny. We have a very difficult time thinking that it is going to be around forever, anyway.

Regardless, we are going to have further updates on “CSI” throughout the rest of the season, including on what could be the ultimate fate of the show. Let’s just hope for something positive.
