‘Saturday Night Live’ music: Bruno Mars, Mark Ronson perform ‘Uptown Funk’

Tonight, we had a little bit of a different performance than usual on “Saturday Night Live.” Rather than just getting one musical talent, we had many! Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson led the way, and we have to say that this performance of “Uptown Funk” was pretty fantastic and then some.

Basically, the whole performance felt smooth like butter, complete with great dancing, a wonderful swagger, and some guitar-playing and musicianship to go along with it. We did not know what to expect being somewhat unfamiliar with the collaboration between the two artists, but we found ourselves pleasantly surprised.

As for the second performance … This was very interesting for a pair of reasons. For one, Bruno relegated himself to background singer rather than trying to do anything else in this episode, which was definitely surprising to us given that his name is headlining alongside Ronson’s musical talents. Also, a good percentage of the song had to be censored. To be fair, though, we’re not that familiar with the song. Maybe this is just how it is supposed to be done.

Regardless of how the song is supposed to sound away from the show, we feel like this entire show was almost without question a big showcase for funk music in 2014. You don’t have that often.

Are we still confused about why Bruno didn’t just host this weekend’s show? Probably, since we have no idea at all why Cameron Diaz was even here, since she didn’t do that much for the vast majority of the show.
