‘Shark Tank’ review: Magic Cook, Off the Cob chips, Earthlog, and Kitchen Safe

Ready for a little bit of everything tonight courtesy of “Shark Tank”? Well, there were a variety of different products highlighted on Friday night’s episode, with our feelings on them ranging from relative excitement to ambivalence.

The reason that we’re not jumping up and down about any of them is mostly a byproduct of us not being entirely sure if any of them are going to get people buying them right away. Some have benefits, but there are alternatives to most that are more affordable and accessible. As always, though, we’ve got links to go along with each product mentioned in this review.

Kitchen Safe – This product still feels a little bit cruel to us. Basically, you are locking all of your stuff away! After hearing about the $50 price tag, we would rather just learn a little self-control and figure out something else … especially for something that makes them a little unhappy and is more of a burden than something they are happy about.

The interesting negotiation here was ironically not just Lori Greiner and guest shark Nick Woodman vs. Daymond John, but also QVC vs. HSN. They eventually chose Lori, and we got a sense that Nick is going to promote GoPro at every chance.

Off the Cob Tortilla Chips – Finally, something tasty! The problem is that this is an extremely competitive market, and it’s not cheap to make quality sweet corn snack products. Ultimately, there is a reason why so many major chip companies use grain corn, and that’s because it’s cheap.

There wasn’t a deal for the business, but we feel like he still got something out of this. Everyone loved the product, and this is really the most important thing.

Magic Cook – Is it reinventing the way you cook? Maybe, but the real reason that this business struggled was just that there isn’t a huge market here outside of doomsday preppers and serious outdoorsmen who want to cook on the go. What was interesting to us here is that she got a deal with Daymond John, but it was in part thanks to her knowledge and experience as much as the product.

Earthlog – A log that appeals to the environmentally-conscious. They are built out of recycled materials, they burn bright, and they also produce less smoke than the standard log. It’s a good product! The problem here first and foremost was distribution. He has a winner here in Lori who will make this work for him. We wouldn’t have taken the gamble, but are happy he got a deal.

Which one of the products was your favorite from tonight’s “Shark Tank”? Let us know right now with a comment.
