‘The Amazing Race 25’ episode 8 review: Brooke ‘breaks’ her butt; Kym & Alli’s editing woes

On Friday night’s new episode of “The Amazing Race 25,” we had what was ultimately a comedy of errors within the county of Malta … which was funny in itself, since there weren’t a whole lot of people who were even aware that Malta was a country.

Let’s skip over for the most part that tray-carrying task at the start, since it was mostly boring and only made about 15 minutes difference in the end. The real action came with the Roadblock, which was practically a giant tourism ad for how beautiful Malta is, and a Detour ripe full of inappropriate, out-of-context comments about greasy poles. This latter challenge was the harder of the two; while it could be done easier in theory, you needed to have insane balance to pull this off. This was the right spot for Adam & Bethany to use their Express Pass to save themselves the trouble.

The best line of this episode came from Brooke of Brooke & Robbie, who claimed she “broke her butt” trying to run across the pole. These two swapped Detours constantly, but were probably spared by Tim & Te Jay struggling and not switching earlier. This sealed their fate more so than having to complete a Speed Bump.

What was to us interesting was how the editing tonight turned around on Kym & Alli, and made it somewhat appear like the other teams didn’t like them, even though we did. They reminded us almost of BJ & Tyler, another favorite team of ours from the past, in this regard. They’re still probably our favorite, thanks mostly to the enthusiasm and competitiveness they have.

A few other highlights from this leg.

  • What was with Amy & Maya’s mat freakout tonight? Great entertainment. We wish we had more of that this season.
  • Brooke literally complains about EVERYTHING on the show. We feel she would doubt whether or not she could even do a wrestling challenge.
  • What was with the greeter tonight being extremely dismissive of the Cyclists?

Overall a great episode, and we can’t wait for what lies ahead! Grade: B+.
