Leah Messer Calvert leaving ‘Teen Mom 2’

MTV’s “Teen Mom 2” looks to be finally undergoing a cast change.

After being a part of the series since the very beginning, and chronicling so much of her journey with her twins and eventual third child, Leah Messer Calvert confirmed on Twitter this week that she is leaving the reality show. She did not offer up a whole lot of other details, and it is still to be seen what the future will be for some of the other cast member.s

The timing of this announcement is mostly curious to us given that we feel that the network is in the middle of what is a major transition period for the network. “Jersey Shore” has been over for a while, but with “Snooki & JWoww” ending soon, MTV is finally going to be moving on past that cast.

Meanwhile, the original “Teen Mom” stars have been gone for a while, and this is really the last remnant for us from this particular era of MTV programming. While they still have some successful reality series, they receive more headlines these days for scripted fare like “Faking It” and “Teen Wolf.” Their most-anticipated programming right now includes a new version of “Scream,” and also the “Eye Candy” project featuring former “Victorious” star Victoria Justice.

We are going to have some other updates on this and other series soon, so stay tuned for some of that. The fact that we haven’t discussed “Teen Mom” in a long time should be an indication of where this franchise is now in terms of publicity. It’s not what it once was, at least in terms of its ratings.
