‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 8, episode 10 review: LeVar Burton and the ‘Fun with Flags’ finale

The Big Bang TheoryThere are times when “The Big Bang Theory” plays out like a silly little tapestry, and then there are also ones that are a little mish-mashed and basically “Seinfeld” with nerds. This is closer to what we had on Thursday night’s all-new episode, which for the most part were completely all over the place.

Still, some of them were pretty meaningful, and we found ourselves getting a little sad, too, watching Leonard, Howard, and Raj pack up the office of a scientist who never accomplished what he wanted to. Death has almost eerily been a part of the show the past year or so, and there is still not a recognition from the characters yet in regards to Carol Ann Susi’s passing. We do feel like that episode is one that will come, even if it has not been confirmed.

The end of “Fun with Flags” was completely silly, and also pointless in a way given that in the end, Sheldon decided to revive the show, anyway, after someone left him a YouTube comment. It was still nice to see LeVar Burton back on the show again, as well as a tiny appearance from John Ross Bowie to go along with it.

Finally, we had a decent Penny / Bernadette scene that really touched on something that has long been an issue on the show: The latter character’s constant anger and rudeness to people. This is what gives her a personality! She seems sad about the public impression of her and claims that she will change, but we’ll ultimately believe that when we see it.

While this episode was inconsistent, we at least laughed. Sometimes that is better than the standard episode of the show. Grade: B.
