‘The Blacklist’ season 2, episode 9: Boss on Alan Alda, Ryan Eggold, Mary-Louise Parker

The Blacklist logo any seasonLast night, “The Blacklist” said farewell to 2014 with an episode entitled “The Decemberist,” which basically brought with it a series of reminders that in the world of Raymond Reddington, crazy things can happen in a remarkably short amount of time.

Not long after learning that Zoe D’Antonio was Berlin’s daughter, James Spader’s character decided to kill him. Also, he went ahead and killed the Decemberist himself in Fitch (Alan Alda) in a pretty gruesome way.

Show boss Jon Bokemkamp did a Q&A session today on the Wall Street Journal’s Facebook, and when asked about the move specifically to eliminate Fitch, he said that telling the story was bittersweet:

“[That] was a gut-wrenching decision. We all love Alan Alda, he’s an incredible professional. His shadow on the show is enormous. But the storyline determined that this is where we were headed and so we had to embrace the story.”

Bokenkamp also said that he would love to have Mary-Louise Parker (Naomi), Paul Reubens (Mr. Vargas), and Ryan Eggold (Tom) back on the show pretty soon, but did not confirm any of their appearances yet. After learning that Tom and Reddington were working together this entire time, Red told him to never come back into Liz’s life ever again. Good look making sure that this happens…

The next new episode will air following the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 1, and we imagine that we will hear much more in the way of news about it prior to that time.
