‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Chris Rock, Kenan Thompson, and more Prince reminders

SNL -In case you did not quite know already, Prince is a legend. The new promo for this weekend’s upcoming “Saturday Night Live” episode chooses to remind you of this fact a good few dozen times.

Why all of the frequent reminders? Did any one of us really forget that Prince is kind of a big deal? The one thing that we find somewhat strange about this is that all of the hype around him seems to take away the hype for Chris Rock, who is in our opinion one of the five funniest comedians on the planet. He also has not been on the show in a very long time, which could mean an opportunity to bring back some of the edge that he once had on board the show.

The promo below is mostly fun just for the sheer glee on Kenan Thompson’s face over getting to work with him … but that is really about it. There’s not enough time in here for there to be any humor. The longer promo, which was shot outside with Bobby Moynihan and Rock, had a few more natural laughs within it.

We have huge expectations for this episode, and one of the real reasons for this is simply looking towards the unknown. We’ve had some weaker shows this season, but we’re waiting still for the absolute clunker that will most likely come when we have someone relatively new to the show or comedy as a host. This is the fifth host of the season, and all five of them have some sort of significant comedy background.
