‘Hawaii Five-0’ season 5, episode 6 review: Did Jerry help catch the counter-fitter?

Hawaii Five-0Last week we had a pretty serious storyline on “Hawaii Five-0” as Steve worked to solve a cold case his father was heavily invested in. We also missed seeing Danny around, but after what happened to his brother Matt, it was expected that he would be off spending time with his family. Because it’s Halloween, we are expecting tonight’s episode to inject a little bit of fun and are curious to see what kind of creepy story they come up with.

Last week Jerry’s hunch about the counter fitting book shop was right and now the owner, Thomas, has Jerry. He’s torturing one of his own colleges in front of Jerry (in between handing out candy to kids, and licking blood off his fingers), wanting to know how much he told Steve about his operation. He eventually releases Jerry and he tells Danny and Steve everything that he learned about Thomas while he was in captivity, saying that the counter fitter is moving large amounts of cash later that night. When Jerry , Steve and Danny go back to Jerry’s place they find all of his life’s work (files, recordings etc.) are all gone.

Steve and Danny learn that Thomas faked the death of his associate that he “killed” in front of Jerry, so that his colleague could go and make the money deal and Thomas would have all the heat on him instead. Eventually they find the money and Thomas is up the creek.

Danny is still having a hard time dealing with what happened to Matt, but at least he’s talking to Steve more then he was.  He tells Steve that his parents aren’t holding up to well, but that he’s doing all right outside of the guilt he feels. He thinks that if he had put Matt in jail that he would’ve saved his life, but Steve tells him not to think that way. As always, Danny and Steve give us the best bromance TV has to offer.

We love Thomas – he’s so incredibly creepy and every Halloween episode of a crime show need a really creepy villain. Also it seems that the Ellie character isn’t going anywhere so if you are hoping that maybe there will be an Ellie/Steve hook up… it looks like it’s possible. Episode grade: B+
