‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 7, episode 8 reaction: Director on Katey Sagal’s Gemma, crow catastrophe

The latest -While Tuesday night’s “Sons of Anarchy” did not make a major leap forward in the story, it did cultivate a number of small, subtle shifts for Jax Teller and company that pave the way for some terrible things to come in the future.

One of these terrible things is likely to come in the direction of Gemma. What happened to the birds? Did Abel kill them? These are both valid questions, and speaking to Entertainment Weekly about this incident for Katey Sagal’s character, the episode’s director Charles Murray did his best to answer all of them:

“The birds and the message [No Son is Safe] were tied into each other, even though they happened in separate rooms. That had nothing to do with Abel. He ain’t that vicious. That would put him right up there with Moses—he’s a baby Moses. [Laughs] There’s potential for blowback from several different arenas, but I think if you go back to episode 703 when Jax is sitting in the car with Marks, Marks very pointedly says I have no remorse killing any Son. If you know one thing about Kurt [Sutter], he’s very particular about his phrasing and language. He charted that from 703 forward.”

Basically, you just have to see this another message, just as what we saw with Bobby is one. Things are seemingly only going to get worse for these characters moving forward, especially so long as Jax holds firm, and is more invested in taking out perceived traitors like Jury (which has to be one of the most predictable deaths of the entire season so far).
