ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7, episode 5 review: Who wants to read ‘The Ryan Report’?
Many fans feel robbed after the Castle/Beckett wedding went down the hole last season, and the fact that they are dancing around the idea of when they may actually get married this season isn’t making us feel all that much better. We suspect (but not confirm) that they will marry in November during sweeps, but if that’s the plan then maybe start hyping it up for us now?
Castle is back to being the charming, handsome novelist that we all love. Not only is he working hard to get his relationship with Beckett back on track, but it looks like he’s back into promoting his career and his books. Tonight we had a chance to see him charm his fans through a web commercial he’s created to promote his latest book – of course this wouldn’t complete without some sort of folly as he knocks over all of his books, is caught with gum in his mouth and fumbles his own name. Despite his clumsiness, Castle is ready to move his career into the digital age and go viral…. that is until the completed commercial airs and it’s a mish-mash of all of Castle’s fumbles – and it’s hilarious.
Castle’s dive into the wacky world of the internet ties us into the case of the week. Social media moguls are being murdered and the team tries to wrap their head around the idea that someone can make a career posting pictures on a social network (we sometimes have a hard time believing this is a real career these days as well). Some may say that this was a pretty extreme look at social media and bullying on the internet (leading to death), but is it really that far off from some of the internet trolling and death threats that happen already?
Our favorite part of this episode was learning about Ryan’s blog: The Ryan Report! He was pretty unhappy to learn that Castle doesn’t read his blog, however we do and if you want to as well head over to the link here. Episode grade: B
