‘The X Factor’ UK spoilers: What Paul Akister, Lola Saunders, Only the Young will sing

Only the Young -Another week, and another series of questionable song choices over on “The X Factor” UK. We’ve already learned that the theme for Saturday night’s show is going to be songs of the cinema, and the song list suggests that … yawn … we may be in for a show that is just as boring as some of the movies that are out there.

Is Simon Cowell too cheap to license other music, or are these really the songs that some of these people wanted to sing? We’re interested in finding out. For now, though, here are the tunes that were picked for this weekend’s show.

Stevi Ritchie, “Footloose” – The only thing that is interested here is trying to figure out who talked Stevi out of doing a ballad. Doing camp performances, after all, will keep him on the show. Anything that reminds Britain that he is an awful singer will not.

Jay James, “Skyfall” – We’ve heard it done before, but we’ve got a lot of faith in Jay to make it original.

Fleur East, “Lady Marmalade” – One of the few inspired song choices of the entire bunch. She’ll kill this.

Ben Haenow, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” – We love Ben, but there’s zero chance he will make this anything original.

Stereo Kicks, “Let It Be / Hey Jude” – Depending on how many members they have, this could be interesting.

Only the Young, “Boom Clap” – We’re the most excited about this. Hooray for someone actually singing something current!

Lola Saunders, “When You Believe” – Lola’s getting let down here by Cheryl. There’s nothing interesting about this choice.

Lauren Platt, “Let It Go” – Sure, this song is also current, but it feels like it has been around for ten years due to how many covers of it there are out there.

Paul Akister, “Try a Little Tenderness” – While we don’t really think of this song for a movie, no doubt Paul will do really well with it.

Jake Quickenden, “She’s Like the End” – Someone is singing something from “Dirty Dancing” that is not the song from “Dirty Dancing.” Interesting, no?

Jack Walton, “Eye of the Tiger” – No. Just no.

Andrea Faustini, “Listen” – Oh good, so Andrea’s just going to sing a song from the catalogue of “ballads we’ve heard a million times on singing shows already” every week. As much as  we like him, we don’t want this.
