‘The Blacklist’ season 2, episode 5 podcast: On ‘The Front,’ Zoe mystery with Jessa

The Blacklist logo any seasonDid “The Blacklist” proved to be a little disappointing with last night’s “The Front”? We’d say so, but we’re not going to say that without providing at least some sort of explanation as to why we felt a little let down.

In the latest edition of our “Blacklist” podcast, show hosts Matt Carter and Jessa go through every reason why this particular episode struggled, and that included some of the following illogical decisions:

  • Liz exposing herself to this virus when she really didn’t have to.
  • Most of the side storyline that didn’t have anything to do with Liz or Red.
  • The idea that Tom is probably behind that mystery door, which will be the most character-bending and disappointing twist if that really happens. (It changes her character a little too much.)

Were there still some good moments in the episode? Sure, and we’d be completely crazy if we were not to mention those in some way. The scenes with Reddington at the DMV were great fun, and he and Liz had some nice moments prior to him finally figuring out the location of Zoe D’Antonio, a woman he figures is the long-lost Jennifer.

At the end of the podcast, we go through a list of reasons why you should be excited about what is coming up in the next few weeks, given that the series needs to find a way to really get some blood pumping before going off of the air for a few weeks. It will come back following the the Super Bowl, and then shift permanently over to Thursday nights.
