‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 16 spoilers: ‘Walking Dead’s’ Chad Coleman signs up

Law & Order: SVU logo“Law & Order: SVU” is certainly no stranger to taking on stories ripped from the headlines, and for the second time this season, it appears as though they are designing a story specifically around the issues of domestic violence in sports.

Chad Coleman, who is currently playing the role of Tyreese on “The Walking Dead,” has been brought on board the NBC series for a guest spot this fall. Specifically, he will be playing a former football star, now a reporter, who is caught on video abusing his spouse (Meagan Good). However, both parties want to keep the incident quiet. The similarities here between this case and Ray Rice are evidence, though Rice was an active player within the Baltimore Ravens organization at the time of his crimes.

In a statement on this casting and this episode, executive producer Warren Leight had the following to say:

“Domestic violence, with a push from Mariska Hargitay’s NO MORE campaign, has recently sparked a long-needed national dialogue … ‘Spousal Privilege’ explores the personal and legal complexities of this intractable problem. We are thrilled that Chad and Meagan are joining us to take on this challenging episode.”

Before anyone asks the question, don’t take this gig as an assumption that Coleman’s services on the AMC hit are no longer required. He will likely only be on the “SVU” set for a short period of time, and filming for “The Walking Dead” may even be wrapped at the time that this happens. All we’re thinking for now is that this is another venue to show how skilled an actor he is. Then again, you may know that if you watched “The Wire.”
