Ratings: ‘The Amazing Race 25’ finally shows life; ‘Cristela’ holds on

Amazing Race -We don’t always report Friday-night ratings, but in all honesty, anytime that you have good news to share from this often-terrible night of TV, it’s worth celebrating.

Let us begin with the first real hope for the future for “The Amazing Race 25” in this timeslot. The show rose up to a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic last night, which is an increase of 27% from last week and a season high by a pretty wide margin. This shows to us that either people are starting to get behind this season and this cast, or they are finally realizing that it is on and it just moved. It may also be a symptom of people spending a little more time indoors now, after starting out the fall with getting out and enjoying the nice weather. “The Amazing Race” not only won the 8:00 p.m. Eastern timeslot, but won the night for CBS.

Meanwhile, another interesting case was seeing how “Cristela” fared in its Friday-night timeslot. So far, it’s decent news. The comedy only dropped only 8% from last week’s premiere rating of a 1.3, and that may be enough to get it around for at least a little while. Still, this is all relative. A 1.2 is still not a particularly wonderful rating even for Friday, even if it clobbered “Utopia” (0.7) over on Fox.

At this point, we almost want to banish “Utopia” for good. While we’ve found the show entertaining, we feel like it is hurting “The Amazing Race,” and it still has a chance of survival. At the moment, we feel like this reality TV experiment for Fox really just needs to be put out to pasture.
