‘Call the Midwife’ season 4 spoilers: One of the latest cast members speaks out

It is not often that you get a whole lot of news related to “Call the Midwife” during the offseason, but there is a specific reason for that. This series, like many others that air on British television, really puts a gag on most of their cast members during filming.

This is what makes this particular story all the more important, especially since you get a chance to hear from one of the new additions to the show in Charlotte Ritchie. The “Fresh Meat” actress is going to be playing the new character of Nonnatus House Barbara Gilbert, and speaking to the Radio Times, there are some very interesting aspects about this character that we will come to find out about pretty quickly:

“[Barbara’s story] involves some triumphant and some really catastrophic moments.

“She begins quite badly and sort of redeems herself a bit later on … She has a couple of really tragic moments which is awful and then she kind of gets into her stride a bit more – but she still continues to make mistakes along the way.

“To be honest, she’s a nurse and I kind of think nurses are amazing so if she makes a few mistakes I don’t blame her!”  

The challenges for “Call the Midwife” season 4 are many, but we suppose that many of them start here with the exit of Jessica Raine last season. Jenny was a huge part of the show, and while getting Vanessa Redgrave to appear in the Christmas Special is fantastic, that may not be enough to make up for everything.

The rest of the upcoming season will air on BBC One in early 2015.
