‘American Idol’ season 14 spoilers: Fox opens voting to advance singer to Hollywood

The news -Well, we can officially say now that Fox really is holding nothing back this year when it comes to “American Idol XIV,” or the way that they are encouraging America to get involved in the early going.

From now until Tuesday, October 21, you can now officially head online to help select which hopeful singer among a crop of auditioners will make it to the Hollywood Week round, which is taping shortly. You can vote over at the link here, and the four singers are as follows.

  • Emily Claire Shlesinger from Dallas, Texas.
  • Kay Leon from Brooklyn, New York.
  • Raven Symone Basden from Miramar, Florida.
  • Tyler Clark from Ephraim, Utah.

First of all, let’s start with whether or not we actually like this twist … and we’re not a huge fan of it. Why? It feels right now like potentially wasting America’s time. While it’s nice to know that the public may be involved here, the real word of emphasis here is “may.” There’s no guarantee that any of these contestants will advance to the live shows. If they do, you could then argue that they have an unfair advantage in the form of having an opportunity to already build an internet following. This isn’t a big deal to us, though, mostly because everyone on the show gets some advantage in between screen time and edit.

The real test of “American Idol” this season is whether or not there is an actually good pool of talent. Most of the singers mentioned above are okay in their videos, but we’re not going to sit here and say that our jaw was on the ground listening to any of them perform. They may bring something to the table, but they’re also missing a few elements to make them into born superstars.

We’re going to have more on “American Idol” soon, so of course stay tuned! Also, be sure to sign up to get some further news worth singing about via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo via Fox.)
