Good news for ‘Sherlock’ season 4? Benedict Cumberbatch series scores in iPlayer views

Sherlock season 3If there is one thing that we have come to learn over the past few years, it is that people love “Sherlock.” As in, they really love “Sherlock.” This is one of the most popular series out there, and it fairly easy to understand why. You’ve got not only capable leads in Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, but also an interesting cast surrounding them, and sharp writing courtesy of Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss.

So with all of this in mind, it really shouldn’t come as much of a shock that the show is really making a kill right now when it comes to online views from BBC’s online iPlayer. The first episode of the third season, entitled “The Empty Hearse,” was requested more than 3.6 million times by the service. Some of these may be repeat viewings, while others are watching for the first time.

Either way, this is quite frankly incredible given the sense of Great Britain’s population. This would be the equivalent percentage wise to over 15 million American viewers for a show, and there are only a few shows in North America that get anywhere near that level of viewership.

What we take away from this above all else is simple: This really does set the stage more than ever for the fourth season. With the new season not premiering until next Christmas, this means more opportunity for people to become hooked on the show, and for viewers in all measures to rise higher than ever. We’ll have more updates.
