‘Gotham’ episode 4 preview: ‘Arkham,’ and possible asylum origins

Tonight’s “Gotham” episode is one that, by and large, we have nothing too negative to hammer on. There are still flaws in the series, but we get the feeling that things are moving in the right direction, and characters are being given a little more room to breathe.

So far, most of the episodes have revolved a little more around the background stories of a character, but on next week’s “Arkham,” we could be seeing the origins of a place. Could we be set to see how the famed asylum came to be? While we don’t want to go that far just yet, the official synopsis below makes it clear that the district is going to be a big part of the story:

“As a contentious city council vote on the future of the Arkham district approaches, politicians from both sides are in danger. Gordon and Bullock must race to protect the council and an old friend visits Gordon.”

Compared to some other past installments, this does not give a whole lot away. With that being said, we also still feel like we know enough about this episode for the time being to be excited. After all, we know a few things about what Ben McKenzie and Donal Logue’s characters are doing, and the rest of our regulars will probably fall into line. Overall, though, this seems to be a story that focuses a little more on our leads than something we saw in any of the first three installments.
