‘The X Factor’ notes: Chris Rene’s new video, One Direction’s #1

What do you think?

Chris Rene fans may have already heard “Young Homie” more times than they can count, but that doesn’t make the release any less exciting.

We’re not entirely sure just what it is that makes this video from “The X Factor” finalist so effective. The scenery is natural, the setting is Rene’s hometown of Santa Cruz, and nothing in here necessarily reinvents the wheel. However, there’s just something subtly moving about the message to “love life” here that it’s a pleasure to watch.

We have yet to see the song create too much buzz on the radio, but we are still holding out hope that it could become a hit. As we’ve said since the very beginning of Rene’s journey, “Homie” is one of the best original songs we’ve ever heard used as a part of a reality show.

Of course, this isn’t the only “X Factor” news we have for you today…

One Direction’s officially #1 – The time for celebrating is here when it comes to Simon Cowell’s boy band — the group is now on top of the American charts officially with their “Up All Night” debut. In doing this, the boys are the first U.K. vocal group to ever reach #1 on the Billboard 200 with a debut album.

Overall, One Direction sold 176,000 copies of the disc, which was enough to beat out the judggernaut known as Adele’s “21″ this week. Considering that some fans in America are still trying to figure out who this group even is, there is some potential still here for growth.

Finally … LeAnn Rimes – As strange as it seems, the LeAnn Rimes judging rumor hasn’t gone away just yet for season 2 of the American show.  Speaking to “Extra” in a new interview, Rimes’ husband Eddie Cibrian does his best to endorse a certain someone he cares about:

“They’ve been talking. I think she would be unbelievable on a show like that. Plus, she can sing!”

Would LeAnn ever be hired? Not to sound cynical, but we sincerely doubt it, and it has nothing to do with her singing. Her personal life has unfortunately made her the fixture of negative headlines over the years, and we have a hard time seeing Simon take on someone who could (thanks mostly to the media) be a distraction away from the signers. Plus, LeAnn may give Nicole Scherzinger a run for her money on being unpopular.
