Ratings: ‘Selfie,’ ‘Manhattan Love Story’ start weak; ‘Agents of SHIELD,’ ‘NCIS: New Orleans’ drop

We’ve felt for a little while that “Manhattan Love Story” was a strong candidate to be one of the first shows of the fall season canceled, but who knows? “Selfie” may be right there with it based on the premiere numbers.

Despite a huge promotional effort for the Karen Gillan comedy, “Selfie” started last night to just a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. While it didn’t have the lead-in that “black-ish” or “The Goldbergs” had for ABC, it is still rather hard to excuse bad numbers. “Manhattan Love Story” was even lower with a 1.3, and with the reviews that it is receiving at the moment, we won’t be shocked if it is gone within two weeks. We don’t even know why it was greenlit in the first place.

The bad news really continued for ABC the rest of the night. “Agents of SHIELD” sputtered to a new series low of 1.7, which does not bode particularly well for the future of the show beyond this year. If it is this low in September, where will it be come March or April? “Forever” also dropped all the way to a 1.3 after looking steady the first two nights.

The news was slightly better on CBS, at least in that “NCIS: New Orleans” scored a 2.3. It still skewed insanely old, but it kept the majority of the original show’s 2.6 rating. “The Voice” of course won the night with a 4.0 rating, proving yet again that its fanbase is among the most loyal of them all.
