ABC’s ‘Revenge’ season 4 premiere review: Emily Thorne’s addiction; who met David Clarke?
The season premiere of “Revenge” tonight brought quite a bit to the table, and it also brought something that we definitely were not expecting: Proof that Emily Thorne was not exactly succeeding when it comes to letting go.
For most of the episode, she really did not even need to be Emily Thorne anymore, but she continued to feel like as Amanda Clarke, she had no real identity. Therefore, she continued to come up with ways to take down the wealthy, and help those deserving of justice. Basically, she was almost the Hamptons version of Robin Hood.
While all of this was going on, Victoria Grayson was now in Emily’s all-familiar position of trying to get revenge over everything that had transpired with her. She managed to concoct an escape plan from the asylum, and that part of the story was believable. Having David Clarke show up at just the right moment? We’re having a little trouble still with the fact that he is alive now to begin with, especially since it throws the show into complete, overblown-soap-opera territory. That is something it never was never in with both feet before now.
Also, how in the world is Charlotte still alive at this point, and what is with the junkie storyline? We feel like there are still many clueless about how in the world she has made it this long on the show without meeting the Reaper, though some of those drugs may eventually do her in.
“Revenge” is still a fun show, but we also need to still have a little something more to make us buy into some of its cheesier moments. Overall, a decent start to season 3. Grade: B-.

Jack’s new cop buddy was 10 times hotter than Jack, but every male looks better beside dweeby Jack.
They keep trying to make Jack happen, but he’s hopeless and drags down the actors who have to work with him.
Now Jack is supposed to be a cop? That’s ridiculous. The only good thing was Emily saying “but Nolan said you looked like a stripper in your uniform”.

Maybe the writers should kill off Jack? Seriously, you are judging a character before he is more fleshed out in his new role. And I am tired of fans calling Jack a whiner when he has been through stuff; grieving and whining are not the same thing; learn the difference.

I really enjoyed this episode. Daniel and Margaux were on the back burner, where they belong (albeit, Daniel was actually not as bad as season 3’s second half and it was very likable of him to offer Charlotte to room in with him). David Clarke, Gideon, Charlotte, Jack, and the new cop were decent, but they needed more screentime. Victoria’s inmate friends were nice, too. Emily and Nolan were awesome in this episode and I loved the scene with the boat christened “Valerie”. Emily owning Grayson Manor is purely amazing. I thought Victoria’s breakout was going to be really stupid, but it was so simple, yet so well done. I really love how David Clarke kidnaps Victoria at the end of the episode. I’m really looking forward to next Sunday.
As for David Clarke being alive, let me make one thing clear: The death scene where Gordon Murphy stabbed him in the prison was most likely a fantasy sequence. Emily and Nolan never talked to any inmates that could’ve been witnesses to the stabbing. All we can really do is wait and see how David’s appearance shapes everything before we judge it.
