‘Boardwalk Empire’ season 5, episode 4 video: The action you need?

Three episodes into “Boardwalk Empire” season 5, and we feel like the series has left a polarizing taste in the mouths of even the most diehard of fans.

What’s the primary reason for that? We feel like it mostly boils down to one key decision the show made to leap forward over so many key events. There is a certain narrative device that can be used to keep the most significant events away from the present-day action, but you have to be careful of how to use it. If you keep away too much of the good stuff, viewers can be frustrated.

With Rothstein’s death, it feels like we have one of these big moments for sure. Instead of seeing that happen, we’ve instead had at least one character mention it in almost every episode so far.

Meanwhile, you also have the Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre that was seemingly skipped over, even if we feel like that will still hold a bearing on the story in some form moving forward. We just have to figure out what that will be.

So while the story right now seems to be revolving mostly around Nucky and his plans to continue his empire in a post-Prohibition world, there is still going to be plenty of classic “Boardwalk Empire” action. We have to believe that there was a reason for skipping over so much of what we would classify as the good stuff, and maybe we will figure out more of what that reason is over the next five or so episodes.
