‘Sons of Anarchy’ premiere ratings: Season 7 draws biggest early numbers to date

Premiere -The early numbers for the “Sons of Anarchy” premiere are an, and so far, FX and creator Kurt Sutter have to be doing some metaphorical cartwheels in their heads. (Note: The network will not make the official figures clear until three days of DVR viewing are also factored in. This is a new policy for FX.)

According to TVbythenumbers, the series drew a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic, and nearly 6.2 million viewers. Both of these are all-time highs for the show, which should really be pleased with itself right now.

In addition to all of this, there is even good news for the “Anarchy Afterword” series, which drew a 1.4 rating after the fact and over 2.6 million viewers. Clearly, there is a huge market for aftershows if you have a program good enough to justify them … and this is a really good show that merits one

Will the series keep up these ratings all season long? We expect drops for at least a few weeks, given that most shows do tend to have some valleys around the middle of the season. Plus, the premiere had the advantage of airing without competition from major networks. That will change in a couple of weeks.

In the end, though, we still feel like the show will score its biggest rating ever for the series finale when that airs later this year, given that this is the sort of event you really need to check out live. Some of these other episodes you can DVR, especially given the number of commercials that FX plays during the show.
