‘The Vampire Diaries’: Matt Davis books new pilot; what does it mean?March 14, 2012 0 comments
It you love Alaric Saltzman, then it’s possible that the following bit of news may make you shake in your boots a little bit — actor Matt Davis may be leaving “The Vampire Diaries” in favor of a new pilot on The CW.
The news was first reported by Deadline, who goes on to say that the pilot in question is entitled “Cult,” and focuses largely on a journalist (Davis) who teams up with a production assistant for a TV show (also entitled “Cult”) to figure out whether or not the show’s diehard fans are behind the disappearance of his brother. Why would they be? Some of them, as it turns out, have been recreated crimes and events from the very show they watch. “Gossip Girl” producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are two of the names behind the project that should already be familiar to longtime CW fans.
Based on the description alone, this could be a rather interesting show for The CW and Davis to take on — after all, it would give him a more significant venue to show off some of his talents. Does it mean that Alaric is going to die on “TVD” this season? Not necessarily — it’s possible that his character may leave Mystic Falls to start a new life elsewhere, or he is just going to operate with a drastically reduced role. (The original report stated that the door will be open for Davis to return to his current show as a guest if the pilot is picked up.)
We are hopefully going to find out more of an answer about Davis’ fate at some point later this season — for now, let’s just say that there are plenty of reasons to be excited for Thursday night’s new episode of “TVD.” Why? For the first time really all season, Alaric is going to be a key player throughout as we learn more about his past.
AS for “Cult,” we will find out more at The CW upfront presentation this May.
