‘So Think You Can Dance’ finale review: Was Ricky Ubeda, Valerie Rockey season 11 winner?

It has been a long, fun, and at times even emotional season of “So You Think You Can Dance” this year … but as you always know, only one person can be the winner in the end this time around. Otherwise, it felt going into this finale like the winners would have been obvious.

Going into the night, we felt like Ricky was going to be the winner by just a hair over Valerie, and this is where we ended up at the end of the night. But who won? The answer was … Ricky! We didn’t want to anoint him as the champion as early on this season as some others did, but it was pretty clear throughout that he would have the edge so long as he didn’t squander the opportunity. His talent level was just so high, and his performances so artistic. It felt constantly like this was a guy who lived to dance, and just so happened to be doing it on a TV show. He would have been doing it regardless.

So where does this take him in the future? Hopefully, it will lead to him getting some more opportunities to use his skills in the real world, and if there are more seasons of the competition coming up in the near future, it will also hopefully lead to him coming back as an all-star. We’re sure that Nigel Lythgoe would not wait at all on bringing him back, just like he did with Melanie Moore.
