‘The X Factor’ UK: Does Simon Cowell regrest Cheryl Cole debacle in America?

The latest news -With the launch of “The X Factor” this week, and with Simon Cowell coming back over after a three years in America, he is of course getting a ton of press.

Did you really expect the press to not touch on the fact that Simon previously hired Cheryl Cole to judge the U.S. version, only to fire her not too long after that? Of course they wouldn’t ignore this! Cowell spoke on this subject at length to the Radio Times, and made it clear that there are at least some parts of this incident that he regrets:

“If I could go back in time I would have kept her on the show. It was stupid doing what I did … I didn’t sack her personally. That was the second-biggest mistake I made. When you’re under pressure you make stupid mistakes.”

Simon probably should’ve just stopped there, rather than really saying anything at all to the BBC in another interview:

“When I saw her I didn’t recognise her. Literally. The hair and outfit were crazy. Just totally crazy. I asked her manager, ‘What’s she wearing, what’s happened to her hair?’

“He was defensive about it. I haven’t a clue why she turned up like that. She’d put on a bit of weight, but not loads. That wasn’t the issue. The only way I can describe it is that it wasn’t Cheryl sitting in that seat. She’d lost her confidence.”

Here’s a lesson to Simon that every other man understands: When you want to not make people angry, why in the world mention their weight? There was no reason for him to even bring this up in this context.
