‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6 spoilers: Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, and possibilities

Could we really be looking at a season of “The Vampire Diaries” without any sort of Damon / Elena content in it? Blasphemy! We understand the fears that some fans of the couple could have right now given that the two parties are apart, but in the end, there is really not a whole lot to worry about. At some point this season, you will eventually have a reason to at least see the pairing featured again (just like you had a reason to probably celebrate when you first saw the attached photo here).

Executive producer Caroline Dries touched on this subject recently in an Entertainment Weekly interview, and ultimately did her best to make it clear that while you may be worried given the whole “Damon is currently dead” situation, there is no reason to be:

“I’ve been getting all of these hate messages like, ‘You think you can do a season without Delena? You’re crazy.’ The fans have nothing to worry about. We know what we’re doing. Nobody’s going to abandon any love triangle. Everything will be fine. There will be plenty of Delena goodness for people.”

With this being said, we do still expect that the first episode of the new season will be pretty light when it comes to the Damon / Elena scenes, if for no other reason than that it’s hard to justify the big twist if you suddenly throw Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev into working together right again. It benefits the show if she legitimately feels like he is dead, and he has to find a way to surprise her later.
