‘Last Comic Standing’ rankings: Are Joe Machi, Lachlan Patterson current favorites?

Last Comic Standing -We’ve finally made it to the final stages of “Last Comic Standing,” and for the most part, it feels like the right people made it here. We would’ve replaced Rocky LaPorte with Monroe Martin, but an 80% success rate is not too bad. (Plus, there’s always one comic that leaves a little earlier than they should.)

We’re going to rank these five comics now on the basis of personal taste, performance quality, edit, and also the intangible factor that is probably the hardest to gauge: Whether or not NBC wants to give them a development deal for a future show.

5. Rocky LaPorte – He seems like a nice guy, and almost one of those guys you’d see chatting with Louis C.K. in the Comedy Cellar on “Louie.” We just haven’t seen enough of his act to really know if he can deliver for this show’s audience. He did just enough to make it this far, but nothing special to establish himself.

4. Rod Man – We love Rod Man, and we’d personally have him probably at #2 in the list of our favorites. However, his trajectory may have slid a little the past two weeks without a ton of air time, and he struggled during the Roast (probably because that’s just not his style of comedy).

3. Nikki Carr – She’s making great use of this run right now as the “last woman standing,” which we have seen work to someone’s favor on the show before. Plus, Nikki’s really funny! She has a good story, and while we haven’t loved every one of her sets, we can see her being the star of a successful sitcom.

2. Lachlan Patterson – We’ll never get over Gilbert Gottfried refusing to call him by the right last name. Away from that, Lachlan’s in a good spot. He fared well in recent challenges, was hilarious in his face-off, and we also feel like he’s probably the most commercial of any of the people on this season. These should help him.

1. Joe Machi – The only problem for Joe is that we’re not sure a development deal for a show is something he needs more than a stand-up tour. But outside of that, there’s no question to us that he’s been the funniest person on the season. He’s even managed to overcome basically doing three sets now in the past two weeks, which has forced him to tap deep into his material.
