‘America’s Got Talent’ preview: Could ‘instant save’ help Baila Conmigo, Flight Crew Jump Rope?

America's Got Talent -Tonight marks the first “America’s Got Talent” results show of the season, and this also means that we’re going to have our first opportunity to see how the show works with its brand-new twist: The instant save.

Yeah, the show is basically just ripping off something that “The Voice” has already done successfully over the past couple of seasons. It does totally screw over the West Coast, but clearly NBC doesn’t care so much about that if the twist encourages people to actually still watch the results show live.

The one thing that is irritating about it here? Product integration. This is technically going to be called the “Snapple Save,” and you vote using Google Search rather than Twitter. The show will explain that further tonight; we don’t entirely get why you want to try and monetize something that is already producing a different sort of value to your show, but still. We suppose that this show in particular will make a dollar anywhere they can.

Still, this twist could be helpful to an act like Baila Conmigo, Dan Naturman, or Flight Crew Jump Rope. As singers, we’re going to go ahead and assume that Emily West and Miguel Dakota are each going to be declared safe at the end of this. Almost anyone else could be fair game for this, and we’re interested in seeing how it’s implemented in the show. With the ratings solid for last night, it looks like the show has recovered well from natural viewer fatigue, and also from that extended break it took in the middle of the summer.
