‘Masters of Sex’ season 2, episode 3 review: Virginia, Bill see life as a married couple

Masters of Sex -Did you think that Bill and Virginia’s affair would be ending after she had a look at her own conscious last week? “Masters of Sex”? If you did, better think again.

The “work affair” has started to evolve into something else as these two actually get to know each other on a more intimate level.

Most of this episode takes place in a hotel room and it was refreshing to see this type of set up. It gave us a much deeper insight into Virginia and Bill’s developing relationship out side of their physical one. While of course there was the physical part of their relationship in the hotel room, Virginia and Bill really opened up to each other about their past as they finally got to know each other outside of their work. This was also great for us as audience members, because these two characters are very closed off and have been difficult for us to get to know.

We learn about Virginia’s first time with a man, that she was with a man that she later found out was engaged to another woman. It taught her to lock away her heart when being physical with a man, something that Bill struggles with since he wants her to be in love with him, but is afraid of it at the same time.

Stories about Bill’s past leave him vulnerable to her, just as she has become more vulnerable to him and it leads to a power struggle between them. Who is really in control of this relationship?

Also, have you been wondering what happened to Virginia’s kids? They were actually back this episode which was nice considering that they actually exist. They really need to give Virginia’s kids something to do, much like Don Draper’s kids on “Mad Men”. Episode grade: A-
