‘Doctor Who’ spoilers: Could Peter Jackson actually direct episode beyond season 8?

Doctor Who -We understand that for many, there could be a temptation to not even clock on this headline thanks to the repetitive nature of it. We’ve been hearing for years that Peter Jackson, an avid fan of “Doctor Who,” could be coming over to the show to direct an episode. Sometimes, there have been false rumors that the gig is even close to being confirmed.

However, the may be a little more validity to the talk right now for a pair of separate reasons. For one, Jackson will be finishing up his work this year on the “Hobbit” trilogy, which has raked in a ton of money at the box office. This allows him to take a shot at an upcoming season 9 episode. (Season 8’s directors have all already been set, and the majority of episodes are filmed.)

Also, we have the following quote from showrunner Steven Moffat (per the Independent) on just how badly all parties want to see this happen:

“He’s still incredibly busy on The Hobbit. I’ve spoken to him face to face and he would like to do one.

“He accepts that there’s no money and that there’s no time and it would have to be when he’s available – and I don’t think he’s even been available enough to answer our emails of late!”

Eventually, we do think this will happen. Jackson’s got enough money in his bank for multiple lifetimes, and while directing an episode of the show is a substantial amount of work, it’s not the same time commitment as a feature film. He can push through this and then still go on to do a variety of other things without it taking up a full year.

Granted, the one question we’re wondering after seeing some of the “Hobbit” films is how in the world Moffat will contain himself and keep the story an hour long.
