’24’ season 10 renewal: Could Kiefer Sutherland, Yvonne Strahovski, show return?

24 -Tonight marks the official end of “24” season 9, which has been more formally referred to as “24: Live Another Day.” Thanks to the long delay between this season and the past one, it has probably been pretty easy to forget about the fact that this series has been on the air a long time.

But is there a chance for more down the pipeline? After this great season, we know that the demand from the diehard fans is there, and we’re sure that the writers would love the chance to tell another great Bauer story. Unfortunately, there are also still a number of other issues to think about.

  1. Kiefer Sutherland – The man is almost 48 years old, and we therefore have to wonder whether or not kicking butt and taking names really has the same appeal that it once does. This is long, exhausting work, even if you do get paid handsomely for it.
  2. Fox – The ratings have been okay for the summer, but far from phenomenal. When you factor in the budget, it’s understandable to be worried about cost getting in the way here.
  3. The supporting cast – Could you get Yvonne Strahovski back? We feel like that you need at least two out of the three including her, Kim Raver, and Mary Lynn Rajskub if you want to tell another compelling story. We’d personally prefer all three if we could, since they all serve different purposes. (Update: Obviously, and sadly, Raver is no longer available after tonight’s finale.)

The one reason above all else that we give “24” a shot at coming back is because it’s viable summer entertainment. 12 episodes is not as exhausting or as expensive as 24, and it’s not like Fox has done that well with any of its other shows this summer. These episodes are also binge-watching gold, and they can pull in even more profits on the backend.
