‘Downton Abbey’ season 5: How Michelle Dockery, Maggie Smith celebrate Emmy nods

Take a look -The funny thing about scoring an Emmy nod for a show like “Downton Abbey” is that thanks to the timing of the nominations, the cast does not really get that many opportunities to go and and celebrate. After all, there is still work to be done! While many actors, especially those on network shows, are in the process of going out and starting back work, this is a show that is getting close to wrapping for the season.

As Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary) said in a statement at the time her nod was announced, she is going to have to find a way to celebrate within herself while making sure her scenes get done properly:

“I am absolutely thrilled to have been nominated again. I am on set today filming series 5 so, Lady Mary has a big grin on her face for a change!”

While Maggie Smith rarely attends awards shows these days outside of Great Britain, even she took advantage of the opportunity to release a statement of her own joking that these nods were really the only reason producers were keeping her character alive:

“I am so glad you love Violet so much…these nominations keep her from kicking the bucket.”

Given how far along the show is and the amount of competition, “Downton Abbey” was not even really considered to be a major threat to score a lot of nominations this year. Yet, they still managed to surprise, and fared better in the majority of the acting categories than almost any other show on the map. Actor in a Drama series is the only one that doesn’t feature a nominee from the show.
