‘American Idol’ summer tour loses Dexter Roberts from its roster

Dexter Roberts -Well, there is definitely quite the mystery going on right now when it comes to Dexter Roberts and the “American Idol” tour.

At the start of this month, speculation started to swirl when the country singer, who had a devoted following throughout season 13 of the show, started to not be present at some of the concert dates. Most of the fellow artists on tour were silent about it, and it wasn’t quite clear just what was going on. There was speculation that he was sick, but then there were some other events that were booked for him solo later this summer around his home state of Alabama.

We now have at leas some sort of pseudo-official news, but even still the picture is not entirely crystal clear for Dexter. What we know for now is that he is officially off of the show’s tour, and a source close to the situation tells Yahoo! Music that both parties mutually agreed that he would be released from his contractual obligations to continue performing on the tour.”

Really, we’ve had strong opinions on this summer’s tour since the start, and that is simply that we feel bad for all parties involved. The contestants are being short-changed in that they don’t get the chance to perform with a full band, while concert-goers are still being asked to pay a pretty penny for tickets. There’s nothing that the contestants can do about any of this, and we’re sure that some of them are still trying to make the best of it. After all, for at least half of these hopefuls this will probably be the only chance they ever have to do something like this. It’s very hard to keep a career as an artist going when there are already a thousand or so other singing-show alums out there trying to do the same thing.
